Laptop Charging Port & DC Jack Repair

If your charger only works when the cable is held at a certain angle, the charging port is usually worn or its solder joints have cracked. On newer laptops that charge over USB-C, the port and its power controller chip can fail too.

We test the charger, the cable, the battery and the port separately, so you only pay for the part that's actually faulty.

How we diagnose & repair

  1. 1

    Charger and cable check

A frayed cable or a failed brick is the most common cause and the cheapest fix.

  2. 2

    Port inspection

Some DC jacks are on a separate cable and can be swapped easily; others are soldered to the motherboard and need careful board work.

  3. 3

    USB-C power circuit

If the port is fine but the laptop won't negotiate power, the fault may be on the board's charging circuit — we'll explain the options.

What to expect

  • Soldered ports take longer than cable-mounted jacks.
  • Using an under-powered or uncertified charger can cause charging faults — we'll check what you're using.
  • If you see scorching, stop using the charger and unplug it.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the charger or the laptop?

We test with a known-good charger first. If the laptop charges normally, you just need a new charger.

Can I use any USB-C charger?

Only if it supports enough wattage and the right power profile. A low-watt phone charger may not charge a laptop, or may charge very slowly.

Can you fix it at my place?

Charger issues and cable-mounted jacks often can be. Soldered ports usually need workshop time.
